On September 1, 2026, Sport Auto Group stopped charging a dealer documentation fee and a pre-delivery service charge. The change applies at every one of our four dealerships, on new and pre-owned vehicles alike. Between them the two fees came to $1,440.
One dealer charge remains, a $395 electronic registration and filing fee, and you will find it named here rather than discover it in a finance office. A company asking to be trusted on fees should publish all of them.

What changed, and where
Four dealerships, one decision, the same day. Don Mealey Chevrolet in Clermont, Sport Mazda North in Longwood, and Sport Mazda South and Sport Subaru South in Orlando all stopped charging the same two fees.
A documentation fee is what a dealership charges to prepare and process the paperwork on a sale. A pre-delivery service charge covers readying the vehicle before it is handed over. Florida sets neither amount and caps neither, so every dealership picks its own number. That is why the figures differ by a thousand dollars or more between stores a few miles apart.
We set both to zero. The work carries on. Vehicles still get inspected, paperwork still gets filed, titles still get submitted. We stopped billing separately for it. There is no coupon to print, no code to mention, no minimum purchase and no expiration date.

Total dealer fees on a purchase went from $1,835 to $395. Those are dealer charges only. Florida sales tax and the government charges for tag, title and registration are additional and are set by the state and the county.
The fee we kept, and why
A $395 electronic registration and filing fee remains. Florida runs an Electronic Filing System that lets licensed dealers submit title and registration transactions directly, with the county tax collector approving them. That is why you leave with your tag handled instead of an errand to run. This charge covers that work.
It is our charge, not the state’s. Florida’s administrative code requires a fee of this kind to be disclosed separately and specifically prohibits a dealer from presenting it as a state or government fee. We would name it that way regardless, because a fee page that hides its own exception is not worth publishing.
Sales tax and the government charges for tag, title and registration are separate again. Those are set by the State of Florida and by Orange, Lake and Seminole counties. No dealership can waive them, and any dealership suggesting otherwise is telling you something untrue.
Why we changed it at all four stores
Florida does not cap dealer documentation fees. Several states do, among them California, Oregon, Arkansas and West Virginia, and in those states the charge stays modest. Where nothing constrains it, it climbs. Edmunds research puts Florida’s median documentation fee at roughly $899, tied with Virginia for the highest of any state.1
Doing this at one store would have been a promotion. Doing it at all four makes it a policy. A customer cross-shopping our Chevrolet store against our Mazda stores now finds the same fee structure at each, and so does anyone weighing us against the rest of Central Florida.
